The month of June on Long Island brought with it some of the most colorful sunrises, truly a palette of vibrant colors for an artist to use to create. June officially kicks off summer and the longest day of the season, meaning sunrises are very early. The very gifted photographer and visionary, John Lamont once told me, ” your camera is a light gathering device, you control the amount of light entering the camera.” For those willing photographers, summer presents the need to roll out of bed early in hopes of capturing a colorful dawn: that is the drive of a landscaper photographer. It is a chance but a chance rewarded oftentimes with the brilliant colors that only nature can create. We are blessed to capture a split second of that unfolding. Those unique moments never to exist again. Truly a once in a lifetime occurrence that we get to witness first hand and then share it though image capture in the camera! Those predawn colors are sometimes so vibrant a half an hour before the rising sun, for any photographer it means those early rises but the colors are so worth it to witness. Its about light and color is light reflected.
June signals summer activities and for those at the water’s edge, boats, kayaks, paddle boards and more, are ready and set to go to partake in the summer fun “under the sun” as they say. From the clothes we wear to the summer skies, colors surround our life. Think about summer fruit and vegetables and all the delicious lemonade or ice tea or watermelon refreshing drinks on a hot summers day. Colors invite us to life.
Colors have vibrations and as you look at this stunning image captured by Samantha Kennedy, see the rainbow of colors the the scene holds. What draws your eyes into the scene? What colors call to you? What does the image say to you and what do you think the artist is communicating with this image?
One image can hold so much not only about the the landscape but to each person the viewer and the photographer. We often do not think beyond oh I like this or I don’t like it but we rarely take the time to ask ourselves what is it I like or do not like. Different colors appealed to people. Think for a moment what is your favorite color? Everyone has one or two. Now take it a step further, what is it about this color that you like? Is it tied to a memory or it is always something you just felt? Colors have messages because of the vibrations they carry. Samantha’s photo has the rainbow of colors but which one calls to you?
